The GATR 20 is the cooler for the days when the GATR 45 stays in the garage. Twenty quarts holds 22 cans plus the ice to keep them cold — enough for two people through a day on the water, a crew in a work truck, or one person and lunch on a side-by-side. At 19 lb empty it carries with one padded handle and slides behind a seat or into a small boat's locker.
What it gives up in size it does not give up in build. It is the same one-piece rotomolded shell as every GATR hard cooler, with foam-insulated walls, a freezer-style gasket, the signature GATR latches and a drain plug sized to a garden hose. The lid carries a 0–14 in ruler, the stainless bottle openers double as locking plates, and the cutting-board divider splits food from drinks.
Ice life depends more on you than on the box: pre-chill it, pack it about two parts ice to one part contents, and keep it in the shade. Do that and a full GATR 20 is a day-trip cooler with a comfortable margin; skip it and no cooler at this size will save you. If you regularly feed more than two people or stay out past a day, the GATR 45 is the size most people should own.

Most owners report several days from a full GATR 20, and up to a week in cooler months. GATR does not print a "days of ice" figure because pre-chilling, shade, ice type, how full it is and how often it is opened change the result more than the cooler does. The cooler itself is not manufactured in the USA. GATR designs it in Thibodaux, Louisiana, produces apparel and accessories stateside, and does every customization — cooler pads, engraving, printing — in its own Thibodaux shop.
