If you are going to own one cooler, this is the one. The GATR 45 holds 42 cans plus ice — a family of four through a weekend, a boat through a full day, a crew through a shift — and at 26.7 × 16.6 × 16.3 in it still fits behind a truck seat and in most boat lockers. Empty it weighs 29 lb, which is the top of what one person carries comfortably when it is full; two handles make the two-person carry easy.
It is built like every GATR hard cooler: one-piece rotomolded shell, foam-insulated walls, a freezer-style gasket and the signature GATR latches. The lid has a 0–20 in ruler molded in, the two stainless bottle openers double as locking plates for a padlock, and the drain plug takes a garden hose so cleanup after a crawfish boil is a rinse, not a scrub. A cutting-board divider is in the box.
On ice: pre-chill the cooler, pack it about two parts ice to one part contents, keep it shaded, and open it as little as you can. Do that and owners report several days of ice from a full GATR 45, longer in cooler months. Bigger is not always better here — a well-packed 45 outlasts a half-empty 110.
Go down to the GATR 20 if it is mostly you and mostly day trips. Go up to the GATR 70 with Wheels if you feed five or more, stay out past two days, or need to roll it across a parking lot rather than carry it. And if you are between sizes, take the bigger one — you can pack a cooler tighter; you cannot make it larger at the boat launch.

The GATR 45 for a day or a weekend — 42 cans plus ice, with room for food once the ice is packed properly. For three days or more, step up to the GATR 70 with Wheels, or pair a 45 for food with an Egg 25 for drinks.
Empty, at 29 lb, no. Full — 42 cans and ice — it is a two-person carry for most people, which is what the two heavy-duty handles are for. If you will regularly move it loaded across a parking lot or a beach, the GATR 70 with Wheels is the better buy.
Capacity and carry. The 45 holds 42 cans and is carried by hand; the 70 holds 80 cans, adds off-road wheels and a textured lid you can cast from, and weighs 42 lb empty. Same rotomolded build, latches, drain and warranty on both.
Most owners report several days from a full GATR 45, and up to a week in cooler months. GATR does not print a "days of ice" figure because pre-chilling, shade, ice type, how full it is and how often it is opened change the result more than the cooler does. The cooler itself is not manufactured in the USA. GATR designs it in Thibodaux, Louisiana, produces apparel and accessories stateside, and does every customization — cooler pads, engraving, printing — in its own Thibodaux shop.
